These buff coats are based on the surviving examples in the Popam collection (which is now housed in the Royal Armouries Museum) as well as numerous other surviving coats that I have studied. They are made from thick oil tanned buff leather and are entirely hand stitched. Like the originals they are lined with linen and have hook and eye closings with a false lace down the front. They can be made with either leather or cloth sleeves and are stained yellow the way the original coats where using a mixture of yellow ochre and whiting.
